MODALITY MINUTE: What exactly does STRESS Do?
Uncertain economy. War. Weather. Swine flu. There’s enough around these days to stress anyone out!
God designed us to function with emotions impacting us physically. The connection of the two occurs because of the Hypothalamus. Stress burns up minerals and creates an acidic environment. To neutralize acids your body needs raw materials. When iron, manganese and selenium are deficient, the brain ceases sending other hormone messengers. This affects whole body health.
Stress signals include: headache, restlessness, agitation, insomnia, irritability, neck pain, diarrhea, constipation, nausea, and chest tightness.
The adrenal glands are very sensitive to emotions and physical aspects of life. When exhausted and unable support your physical and emotional needs your adreanals kick in. What wears them out? SUGAR! Those who cope best with stress are in better shape physically and emotionally. They eat whole foods, avoid sugar and sugar substitutes, and exercise regularly.
Control adverse effects of stress by minimizing sugar (an acid forming food), exercising, eating alkaline food, drinking water, speaking positively, breathing deeply, and praying.
