Bodywork 101: Essential Oils for Holiday Fever (2 of 2)

The aroma of essential oil and their unique molecular structure can directly stimulate the limbic lobe and the hypothalamus. Studies have found that not only can the inhalation of essential oils be used to combat the all-to- common holiday stress and emotional trauma but it can also stimulate the production thyroid and growth hormones, improve learning and attitude, and bolster immune function. And inhalation of essential oils with high levels of sesquiterpenes (melissa, myrrh, cedarwood and clove, vetiver, patchouli, sandalwood, and frankincense) can increase levels of oxygen in the brain up to 28%.

Studies at the University of Vienna have shown that some essential oils and their primary constituents (cineol) can stimulate blood flow and activity in the emotional regions of the brain.

Clinical studies at the Department of Psychiatry at the Mie University of Medicine showed that Lemon not only reduced depression but reduced stress when inhaled.

These blends are my favorites for easing depression, anger, trauma, and restlessness:

Citrus Fresh

Diffuse to stimulate the right brain amplifying creativity and well-being and eradicating anxiety. DID YOU KNOW… that University researchers in Japan found that diffusing a citrus fragrance in an office environment improved mental accuracy and concentration by 54%.

Brain Power

Apply to nape of neck to improve deep concentration, channel physical energy into mental energy, increase mental potential and clarity, removes emotional blocks, heighten relaxation, and help release feelings of anger. Many of the oils in this blend are high in sesquiterpenes, compounds that increase the activity in the pineal, pituitary, and the hypothalamus glands thereby increasing output of growth hormone and melatonin.

Promotes the relaxation of body and mind, counters stressed nerves. This is what helps me fall alseep on ‘those ‘ nights!

Stress Away Roll-on

This blend of oils reduces nervous tension, and encourages relaxation. It smells wonderful!

Balances energies to instill courage and helps open and release emotional blocks. Helps the body self-correct its balance and alignment.

Produces a magnetic energy to bring joy to the heart, mind, and soul. It inspires romance and helps overcome deep seated grief and depression. (This one is Emme’s favorite!)
